The Gullibility of Youth

New ministries seem to be popping up with the idea of "coffee, couches and candles." This is exactly what we wished for when we were young at heart. Fellowship at a coffee house with music and like-minded people on the couch, perfect. This is something 20 to 25 years ago, and it's totally worth wishing.

Today, looking at those moments, a few ministries and Fellowships stood the test of time. But what started as an anti-establishment seems far away from the original idea. The thing to ponder is that those wishful thoughts have turned out to become big churches and stand in a more organized office.

Now, the bottom line is, things change with time. What we see are the phases of life and man going a little isolated, looking for quiet places. Gullible indeed, we are easily influenced. Culture and the world make us feel we can do everything. We also feel it's going to be forever, those wishful thoughts. Thoughts that the older generation is outdated, only to feel the same in 25 years' time. Nothing new under the sun.

We are scammed by our own imagination, and somehow we also scam others with our ideas. Time tells us that we are not where we started. We are so different from the beginning. We thought of having Fellowships on the streets, the open spaces, the gym, the small houses, and many more. We somehow look down on the church buildings, but now, we want the same thing we once preached against. Isn't it ironic?

Crossing 40 feels different, and leaving the wilderness and those wishful thoughts seems peaceful. The dreamer finally realizes that everything is not what's intended in one's life. But what you have gone through only makes you feel a little foolish, a little bizarre, and a little fortunate to learn from those experiences. The older we get, the more conservative we become. We go back to the hymns, still acknowledging the songs of the youth.

Though it is time to be a youth, too many things to ponder, too many to achieve, only to realize that life is not stagnant and only grows to a more organized life. Scammed by our emotions, lured by the charisma of its time. Hating tradition and moving far away only to end up loving what we thought was boring.

Only by realizing all the things we do will we be judged at the end.

Finally finding purpose in the fear of the Lord.
